Making Homemade Chalk
Hi Friends! Has this happened to you before? You see an idea and think about doing it but for one reason or another… you never get around to it. When you FINALLY do, you realize how easy it is… and you have the greatest time putting the project together and an ever better time playing with it?
Yes you say? Well… it just happened to me! My kids and I just made chalk and as my 6 year old would say “It was easy peasy lemon squeezy!”
Supplies: Plaster of Paris, dry Tempera paint, silicone molds, measuring cups, plastic conatiners (for mixing) and plastic spoons (also for mixing).
Mix 1 cup of Plaster of Paris with 3/4 cups of water.
Add 3/4 cup of dry tempera paint (3/4 cup gives you brightly colored chalk).
Stir it up well and break up any lumps.
Then pour into mold(s). It sets pretty fast. After about an hour, gently remove chalk from mold(s). Set the chalk on some paper towels and let them dry for another day.
My kids and I headed outside to test our creations:
We drew a rainbow…
Tulips…
And a flower leaning toward the sun. Cheap summer fun!
