I call them my "guilt flats." I bought this pair of black leather shoes (embellished with a flower to make them fun I thought) years ago but only wore them a couple times. I figured the flower would give them some flair but since the shoes were black– it was difficult to see the embellishment… making them (gulp) B-O-R-I-N-G.
And I felt bad about not slipping them more– because there is nothing "wrong" with them. Luckily, there's almost no dilemna that a fresh coat of paint and some glitter can't solve… including plain shoes. I decided to "poinsettia-ify them."
Supplies: Shoes (!), Tulip PDA (personal dazzle assistance) Crystal Stickers, Martha Stewart Craft Paint, Tulip Dimensional Glitter Paint and Painter's Tape.
The flower is cute… but hard to see.
I taped off the flower with painter's tape.
And applied 3 coats of gold paint from Martha Stewart Crafts, allowing a few hours of drying time between each layer.
Then I taped off the flower (the inside).
And taped off the gold part underneath.
I applied three coats of red craft paint from Martha Stewart Crafts, also giving each coat a chance to dry.
While the red paint was drying, I painted on gold Tulip Dimensional Fabric paint– this also took three coats to get a really glittery look.
And then the same for the red Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paint.
Since I was going for a festive poinsettia look, I painted the interior section of the flowers gold.
Three of glitter paint later… they were looking pretty fun. But they still needed a little extra holiday sparkle.
Applying the red Tulip Crystal Stickers was so simple. They're literally stickers.
There's the dazzle!
I love how my formerly snooze-worthy flats have been transformed into something special.
Now my boring flats make me smile! I can't wait to wear them to some of the holiday gatherings we're going to.
