Glass Jars have so many uses, like these Mason Jar Candle Holders. They are easy to make and perfect for any occasion, especially Fourth of July. I shared my DIY Glam Glitter Vases recently and it got me thinking about what else can I do with glitter and glass jars.

Supplies for the Jars: Mason Jars, masking tape, acrylic paint, glitter (I used chunking blue, medium white and fine red), Mod Podge, ribbon, and large lima bean.

Patriotic Mason Jar Candle Holders

Step 1: Tape off the top of the jars.

Step 2: Paint the jars with acrylic paint (may take 3 coats).

Step 3: Gently remove the tape.

Step 4: Use a paintbrush to apply a light coat of Mod Podge and sprinkle glitter.

Step 5: Cut a piece of ribbon and tie a bow around the jar. Add lima beans for filler.

DIY Glitter Candles

If you’e going to make glittery candle holders, you need DIY Glitter Candles, right? Here’s how to make them.

Glitter Candles

From Clockwise

1. Supplies: Candles, Mod Podge, a paintbrush, and Epson Salt and white glitter

2. Mix Epson Salt and white glitter. If you have different types of glitter (chunky and fine) mix them both in.

3. Brush a layer of Mod Podge on the candle.

4. Quickly sprinkle the Epson Salt mixture on it and let it dry.

5. Add candle to jar.

These would be perfect for outdoor entertaining on the 4th or anytime!

The lima beans are a fun touch and they keep the candles nice and straight.

Vintage YoT: 4th of July Beverage Bar

Hi! These next couple weeks I’m sharing some ideas for celebrating the 4th of July.

When I put these projects together, my plan was to use pieces I already had, things that were free or items that are available at the grocery store (as much as possible).

4th of July Entertaining

Setting up a beverage bar outside can encourage guests to stop and chit-chat, and having a special drink available gives them something to talk about. Watermelon Margaritas are the perfect warm weather refreshment. Fresh and delicious on a hot day. The recipe is towards the end of this post.

Bevbar3

An old drawer that’s been converted into a shelf holds the Margarita glasses.

Bevbar2

The map of the US in the background is actually a piece of wrapping paper that I sewed on some fabric from Value Village (99 cents)!

This Land of the Free art is a free printable courtesy of I Heart Naptime.

The vino wine glasses are from World Market from about five years ago. They might still carry them!

Bevbar10

I already had the big beverage dispenser. I think it was from Targe’ last year.

Bevbar6

The Margarita glasses are regular canning jars dipped in lime juice and rimmed in sugar. That’s what you pour the Watermelon Margaritas into.

Watermelon Margarita Recipe

Watermelon Margarita Recipe

Ingredients: 2 teaspoons sugar, 1 lime wedge, 3 1/2 cups cubed seeded watermelon (or seedless), 1/2 cup tequila. 2 tablespoons sugar, 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice, 1 tablespoon Triple Sec (orange-flavored liqueur), lime wedges to garnish

1. Place 2 teaspoons sugar in a saucer. Run the rims of 6 glasses with a lime wedge (or freshly squeezed lime juice). Spin each glass in sugar and set aside.

2. Combine watermelon and next 4 ingredients (through Triple Sec) in a blender; process until smooth. Fill each glass with 1/2 cup crushed ice. Add 1/2 cup margarita to each glass. Garnish with lime wedges. Makes 6 servings.

The Margaritas are really good and they’re only 105 calories a serving.

Rustic Fourth of July: Beverage Bar featuring Watermelon Margaritas

Hi! This week I am sharing some ideas for celebrating the 4th of July.

Watermelon Margarita Recipe

My plan is to use pieces I already have, things that are free or items that are available at the grocery store (as much as possible).

Bevbarpix

Setting up a beverage bar outside can encourage guests to stop and chit-chat, and having a special drink available gives them something to talk about. Watermelon Margaritas are the perfect warm weather refreshment. Fresh and delicious on a hot day. The recipe is towards the end of this post.

Bevbar2

The map of the US in the background is actually a piece of wrapping paper that I sewed on some fabric from Value Village (99 cents)!

This Land of the Free art is a free printable courtesy of I Heart Naptime. The paper straws are from an Etsy shop called Showers Bring Flowers. I noticed a big range in the price of paper straws when I was shopping around.

Rustic Fourth of July: Jam Jar Lid Tic Tac Toe

Hi, I’ve been working on a few ideas for a cheap + chic Fourth of July.

Fourth of July Entertaining

One of my ideas involves jam jars– but what to do with the lids? Make them into tic tac toe pieces:

Jam lid checkers1

Measure the jam jar lid to cover with paper. Glasses make great templates or use a circle cutter. This one is the Custom Cutting System from Creative Memories. I think it could probably be considered *vintage* but it still works great. You need two sheets of patterned paper. The polka dot paper is from Canvas Corp and the navy stars is from October Afternoon. The red and white gingham is from Martha Stewart. I made two sets of game pieces.

Jam lid checkers2

Use Modge Podge to adhere the paper to the lid.

Jam lid checkers3

Make a grid using washi tape (or duct tape would work well too).

Jam lid checkers4

Use a dot of hot glue on the back of each lid to secure a magnet. Pop into the frame and you’re done.

Jam lid checkers6

Patriotic Tic Tac Toe.

Jam lid checkers7

Grab a snack and you’re set.

Make it Monday: Patriotic Pennant Tutorial

Patriotic Pennant

Patriotic Pennant
This is a fun project + a great way to use up random embellishments, fabric scraps and old denim jeans (yours or your husband’s LOL).

IMG_4401
Supplies:  Denim Jeans you’d like to upcycle, Canvas, Red + Navy Ticking (although you can use whatever!), Fabric/T-Shirt Transfer Paper, Victorian Fourth of July One by Piddix.  Sewing Machine or hand needle and thread, Fabric Tac, Wide Bias Tape, Embroidery Thread, Random Embellishments.  Pinking Shears (optional) or scissors.  Iron + Ironing Board.

Make yourself a template out of cardstock (mine is 5″ by 8″ by 8″).  Cut 6 triangles out of the jeans, 6 out of the Red Ticking and 6 from the Navy Ticking.

IMG_4352
Sew your triangles into pennants.  I made a 1/2 border around the two long sides.

IMG_4353When you get to the edge of the pennant, to make a angle, leave your needle in, lift the foot, and pivot the fabric.

IMG_4347
Download your graphics from Piddix and print on the T-Shirt Transfer paper (follow package instructions).  I cut the individual images out before transferring them to canvas.

IMG_4348This is when I figured out my images were backwards and than meant the writing was too!  I’m sure there’s a way to remedy this but I decided to dig into my embellishments stash.  You could also just print the images onto cardstock and sew or adhere them to your pennants.

Edited:  From Piddix on flipping images– For reverse printing, many printers have an option under layout for “flip horizontally.”

IMG_4350
I chose my four favorite images, cut them out with pinking shears and decided where to put them.

IMG_4351My pattern was red ticking/denim/navy ticking.

IMG_4389
IMG_4385
IMG_4383

IMG_4388
I embellished the images before sewing so I could see “where to sew” but you could sew the canvas to the pennants first.

IMG_4378
I measured my mantle (ok when I say “measured” I mean I stretched my bias tape out on to figure out how long the project needed to be).  Then I pinned and sewed the pennants to the bias tape.  I also went over the project with my Fabri-Tac in hand to secure any loose spots.

That’s it!  I’m using this to decorate the house for Memorial Day and again for Fourth of July.
