Yummy Wednesday: Soda Fountain Cakes

IMG_3122

When I was a little girl my Mom did the coolest thing for one of my birthday parties.  She filled ice cream cones up with candy and then put ice cream on the top.  When I found this recipe in a vintage Better Homes and Gardens Book, I was reminded of that sweet party detail.  With this recipe, you bake the cake in the ice cream cones... and the cones don't burn!Soda Fountain Cakes To make the cake, you just need a package of flat bottom ice cream cones and a box of cake mix … [Read more...]

Make It Monday: Vintage Wallpaper Art

IMG_3012

I feel a little guilty putting this post in the "Make It" category because it's SO easy.  I picked up some samples of vintage wallpaper a few years ago and I thought they were lovely.  Every now and then I'd bring them out and admire them but I still wasn't sure what to do with them.  Then one day, cruising down the cheap inexpensive frame aisle at my local craft store it hit me--  The wallpapers were pretty enough to frame (especially if the frames … [Read more...]

Yummy Wednesday: Simple Sausage Casserole

Recipe box

I recently got my hands on my Grandma Millicent's Recipe Box.  Score!  Looking through it felt a little like paging through a private journal.  The graceful handwriting and notes about where each recipe came from gave me a little insight on her life. There are some intriguing recipe titles in here, including "Grease Pan Cookies," "Oyster Pie" and "Lemon Velvet Cake."  I think an experience that had a big impact on Grandma Millicent was … [Read more...]

Alfred D'Souza … [Read more...]

Fun Day Monday: Valentine’s Day Craft

IMG_0366

Have you ever been the lucky recipient of a Cookie Bouquet?  Something like this?  When all that's left is a pile of crumbs and some plastic... STOP yourself from tossing it.Here's what I made last Valentine's Day (forgive me for the horrid photos please)! Turns out that plastic stuff is super easy to paint. My base was a generic vanilla color and I painted it with red acrylic paint (2 coats).  Then I used Martha Stewart glitter to give it a little sparkle. The … [Read more...]

Edward, Bella, Michelle

IMG_0320

An imaginary conversation between Bella and EdwardBella:  "Oh, Edward..." Edward:  "Yes Bella?"  Bella:  "Why does it always seem like there's something keeping us apart?  My Dad, my friends, Jacob, Victoria, the Volturi... plastic packaging (sigh)." Edward:  "Oh Bella... You're such a doll."Finally made it to "New Moon" this weekend.  I have to admit there were a few instances of teenage … [Read more...]

December Daily 2009: Just add words + pictures

IMG_1524

My December Daily 2009 is underway-- well at least there's the makings of it.  So far I am caught up to (drum roll) Day 2... but I have been keeping track of what's been going on and saving bits and pieces from each day. Here it is: Two things I am into this year:  burlap and mists.  Either Maya Mist or Glimmer Mist! Can't seem to get enough of either one.  For the cover I painted some chipboard with Making Memories paint in Red Wagon. … [Read more...]
