Exactly Where He Should Be
After three months in the brace, Max still has his sense of humor. According to Ly (Our Physical Therapist) he's exactly where he should be with his recovery. Phew! I was a little concerned. Between our trip to Chicago and the food poisoning we brought back with us, we missed a few sessions. Max is learning some new exercises. This is his favorite. Mia tries to be a supportive sister but gets a tiny bit bored sometimes. I can't wait until they are running around and playing together like they used to. But for now, one step at a… Read More
Losing a (Very) Loved One
My father-in-law Arnold passed away a week ago. He was so many things but the quality that comes to mind is that he was so interested in life and in living. He was born in 1921 and his parents were financially solid until the Great Depression hit. Their drycleaning businesses couldn't survive. Arnold found himself making deliveries and being the "muscle" for the new family grocery business. Later, he served in WW II as an accountant– he hadn't gone to college yet but was so naturally good with numbers that's where he landed. He saw a lot of… Read More
Hati + Closer to Home
Image by Elizabeth Dillow Hati has been on my mind a lot lately. My husband, Neal, was in Guatemala when the earthquake struck. He’s a journalist. Neal tried extremely hard to get to Hati, but it was impossible for him to find a flight (either commercial or military). In the meantime, things were happening back in the states. My father-in-law, Arn, who usually spends all his spare time on casinos not connected to gamstop, suffered a heart attack and came down with pneumonia. Arn is eighty-eight and one of the coolest people I know. He’s sharp as a tack, up… Read More

Matroyshka Mania
Is there anything cheerier than a Matroyshka Doll? The clean graphics combined with a folk art feel are so appealing. I love the artwork my friend Amy S created for her guest room. She used gift bags from World Market to make the wall hanging. Gift Bag World Market is full of Matroyshka fun: Pitcher Small Plates Close Up of a Small Plate Each of the dolls on the small plates have unique expressions. By the way, if you sign up for the World Market Rewards Program (free) you get a 10% off coupon. There are also wonderful children's… Read More
Pure Joy on YouTube
This is so fun and completely amazing… The work of a High School Video Production class (specifically student Javier Caceres) Video-taped at Shorewood HS in Washington during fifth period (100 minutes long) Shot forward, but played backward (students learned the lyrics backwards) You won't be able to stop smiling after watching this
Riding the Wave into the Yellow Zone
We are celebrating today… Max is officially in the "Yellow Zone." He did a perfect backbend without any pain Right leg at 90 degree angle And the left too. (Max & his Physical Therapist, Ly) Reaching these goals seemed like a dream just a few months ago. There's still a long way to go, but what a fantastic gift Max has given to our family and to himself. He's worked so hard each and every day since his diagnosis. There will be a new set of goals next week, but for right we are basking in the happy glow of… Read More
