Guest Post: Design, Dining + Diapers
Hello Yesterday on Tuesday readers! I'm so happy to be back to Malia's space for the day. I'm so honored to be filling in while she takes a little vacay!
I'm Taryn from Design, Dining + Diapers. A place where I share a little bit of everything but mainly craft tutorials, DIY home decor, and allergy friendly recipes! I live in the Pacific Northwest with my hubby, 15 month old Baby Girl and our spunky Golden Retriever! I love the outdoors, coffee, baking, spending time with friends and family and watching reality TV!
So how is everyone's summer going? Ready for school to start again or do you feel like you are just getting started? One thing about this summer that is extra special are the much anticipated 2012 Olympic Games! How cool is that? Today, I'm going to share an easy little treat that would make a great addition to an Opening Ceremonies party.
These bags are so easy to make! They take less than an hour and can easily be made a head of time.
I made the individual chocolates using a star mold (see below) with both red and white melting chocolate. Unfortunately due to my food allergies I wasn't able to taste test them, but the master taste tester in my family (aka my husband) kept asking when I was going to be done taking pictures so he could have more!
How cute are they? If you don't want to package them individually, you could always place them in a fun bowl to serve alongside a dessert!
Now here's how I made them.
I picked up these star molds from the dollar section at Target. $2 for both molds, score.
1. I bought white and red melting chocolate (you can find it at your craft store). I started by pouring half the package of red melting chocolate into a microwave safe bowl and placed it on high for 1 minute.
2. After 1 minute, stir the chocolate and then place it back into the microwave for an additional 30 seconds if needed.
3. Pour the chocolate into the mold and fill each star about half way.
4. At this point, I made the mistake of pouring the second color directly on top of the first and the colors ran together. So on the second batch I placed the half filled molds into the fridge for 10 minutes to harden. Once the chocolate was firm I poured the second color on top! Worked much better. Once the molds were filled, I placed them in the fridge for 20 minutes.
On the second batch I rotated the colors so they were reversed from the first. Just to give them some variety! Note, I used half a bag of both red and the white chocolates and it made two molds worth, so 20 stars.
Once the chocolates have hardened, carefully remove them from the molds.
I placed the chocolate molds in plastic bags and then cut strips of drop canvas, lace and ric-rac to polish off the bags.
These little goodie bags would make a fun treat for all ages. I mean, who doesn't love chocolate?
