December Daily 2008

I think the idea of a December Daily is a great one.  Basically, it's a daily journal (with or without photos) where you can document what's happening during this special month.  It has a start date and an end date that you choose.

It doesn't have to be fancy or complicated– just authentic. The Queen of the December Daily is Ali Edwards.

Here is my December Daily from last year. I have had a blast looking at it for the first time since last year and remembering the details of all the fun and wonderful things that happened.  I used a kit from Evalicious for about half of the book and junk mail, paper shopping bags and other randomness for the rest. If I don't note the manufacturer, it's probably Evalicious.

This is my little brother and I circa 1978… note the dress, inspired no doubt by my favorite TV show (Little House on the Prairie). I just used a piece of cardboard for the cover and painted around the edges with Making Memories paint. The photo is a 5 x 7 developed at Costco (cheap and easy)!

This is some junk mail from Macy's– I liked the sentiment.

Back of the ad and on day "10"– (notice I started on Day 10) is my scrawling to-do list. The number 10 is from Elle's Studio.

I think the snowman is from a Carter's coupon and the trees on the right is from a Nordstrom ad.

Sometimes a funny quote captures what's going on.  The number is from Teresa Collins.

Your pages don't all have to go the same way. This photo is horizontal.

The "paper" on the left is tissue paper from Anthropologie.  "Joyful" is from Scenic Route.

The receipt from Trader Joe's for potato pancakes, hotdogs and jelly filled donuts (in honor of Hannukah) will be fun for the kids to look back on when they're adults.  The photo on the right is just what we did that day– rock climbing at a friend's birthday party.  I used part of a Trader Joe's bag behind the photo.

The image on the left is from some Sassafras Lass ad that was running in magazines.  The "15" on the right is from Elle's Studio.

We had tons of snow last year in Seattle.  This photo of a tree in our neighborhood says it all.  On the right is an envelope with my favorite sugar cookie recipe.  The little letters are Making Memories.

I love these pages. It was a "No Snow Snow Day."  For days the kids had school and then it snowed like crazy. Finally the district cancelled school and it never snowed!

IMG_1557-16

But by the 18th, it was snowing again.  Mia made a cute snow angel. The tags are from Creative Imaginations.  The numbers and "joy" are Thickers.

We watched this show a BILLION times.

IMG_1560-1

What to do when it's cold out and your kids have cabin fever?  Hype them up on hot chocolate of course. The paper is Scenic Route.

IMG_1561-8

The kids are I had brunch with some dear friends.  On the way to Seattle I took a picture. It looked peaceful but another storm was on the way.  The "20" is Teresa Collins and the flower is Making Memories.

IMG_1562-7

This is the "after" picture.  After the storm, the city was gorgeous.  We were staying at the Westin so I included one of their "coasters" in the book.

IMG_1563-2

The city was silent the next morning.  We went to breakfast at Lola's and saw a chubby man with a white beard.  Mia was convinced he was Santa and kept trying to tell him what she wanted for Christmas.  The numbers are Thickers.

Seattle usually doesn't get much snow and so when it does, the city shuts down.  The kids and I got our snow gear on and walked around a silent downtown. We tried to ride the monorail but it was out of service.  We ended up seeing "Bolt" for the third time because it was 1) Open and 2)Warm.

IMG_1565-17

It was Hannukah so we celebrated in our hotel room.

IMG_1566-12

Paper from my beloved Scenic Route.  "Peace" is from Paper Source.

IMG_1568-11

Blurry pictures are not only ok, they tell the story better sometimes.  The kids were entranced with the Menorah. Also included a receipt from the grocery store… my first attempt at and successful completion of making Beef Brisket.

IMG_1569-19

My parents made the arduous journey to hang out with us.  My Dad and Max shoveled the snow.  Well, actyally, Max swept it!

Well that's it.  Hope this project inspired you to document your December!

  1. Ok, that is so fun. I saw it when you finished it last year but I loved perusing it again. And I totally forgot that we had breakfast together. I can add it to my 2008 december daily. :) It’s still not done. How’s this year’s coming along?
