Vintage YoT: Kid’s Creativity Kit
If you and your kids are spending a lot of time driving to vacation destinations this summer… consider putting together a Kid's Creativity Kit. Woo Hoo busy kids = happy parents!
Main supplies: Plastic Swiffer bin, plastic sandwich meat container, 2 small baby food jars, spray paint, strong scissors. Clean out the containers and trim the extra stuff off the rim of the food container.
First up…
Spray paint the baby food jar lids.
You will be amazed at HOW MUCH STUFF you can fit in the empty Swiffer container. I filled up with supplies from Target, either the $1 bin or the crafts aisle (those items were $2)
Beads $2, Elastic Cord $2, 5 Pack of Crayon Erasers $1, Dry Erase Board $1
Mead lined paper pad $2, plain paper pad $1, Pip Squeaks, Crayons under $1, rubber stamps, $1, ink pads $1 each
You can fit all the alphabet stamps in a small baby food jar as well as a good supply of beads
In the smaller plastic container– a layer of crayons and all the Pip Squeaks
I also added some kid sized scissors and a pencil
The pink paper pad was fine, but a little scrap paper and doubled sided tape and an embellishment or two makes it even better Everything fits together neatly
And the dry erase board goes on top
To prettify the case, you can use scrap paper, and adhere it with doubled sided tape around the bin. Also fun– letter stickers (these are from American Crafts) on top as well as more small embellishments. I am looking forward to keeping my five year old entertained "on the road" this summer, thanks to this kit!

What a great kit! Such a fun way to keep the kids occupied.
Fun idea Malia! But all your ideas are great so I have come to expect nothing less. LOL!
Malia – you have the best ideas!! Pretty and oh so practical. :)
LOVE this. I was going to throw some stuff in a box (at the Maker Faire some guy sells boxes of “junk” and calls them McGyver Boxes) for the kids….but yours are so pretty..LOVE this idea.
