Pumpkin Cookie Kit in a Jar
Pumpkin Cookie Kit in a Jar
Woo hoo… It’s another fabulously frightful day of Halloween in a Jar!
Today, I’ve got something sweet on tap for you: a Pumpkin Cookie Kit in a Jar. This would make a fun present for your child’s teacher or a great hostess gift if you’re heading to a Halloween party.
Supplies: Quart sized mason jar (hint: if you need a jar with a smooth side, check out Kerr Mason Jars), a vinyl pumpkin shape, an orange kitchen towel, orange sugar sprinkles, a champagne cork and brown acrylic paint, an orange circle shape for the lid, green curling ribbon, a pumpkin cookie cutter, and I included a plastic spatula, a slotted spatula and a rolling pin. You’ll also need a hot glue gun.
You might already have a favorite sugar cookie recipe, but if not, here’s my sister-in-law Kelly’s Butter Cookie recipe, which works perfectly for cutting pumpkin shapes.
- 1 cup butter
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 tsp lemon extract
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp cream of tartar
- 2 1/2 cups of flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- orange sugar sprinkles
- Cream butter
- Add sugar and beat well
- Add beaten eggs, then all remaining ingredients.
- Chill (2 or more hours).
- Roll on floured board
- Cut pumpkin shapes and sprinkle with orange sugar
- Bake for 10 mins (or until brown) at 350 on a greased cookie sheet.
Step 1: Add the vinyl pumpkin to the jar
Step 2: Roll up the napkin and place inside
Step 3: Paint the cork brown to make a stem. Cover the lid with some orange scrapbook paper. Glue the paper and the cork to the lid with hot glue.
Step 4: Add a little green curling ribbon around the jar lid.
So you can either fill the jar up with cookies, or you can place the utensils etc inside and give a plate of cookies along with the kit. Yum!
