Dyed Doily Banner

Doiliy banner 1
Supplies: plastic clothes line from the Dollar Store, fabric, Heat n Bond, 5 white doilies ($1 at Michael's), Rit Dye (I used Lemon Yellow, Fuchsia Sunshine Orange), pinking shears, hot glue, bowls for tracing circles, different colors of felt. *Note: I used a total of 9 large circle shapes for the banner (5 doilies, 2 fabric circles and 2 felt circles)

Doily banner 3
Follow the directions on the Heat n Bond package and iron the Heat n Bond on the wrong side of the fabric. Then the fun part– Rit Dye + a Doily + Hot Water = Delicious Colors

Db6
Dye two doilies Lemon Yellow

Two Fushcia

  Db7

And one doily Sunshine Orange.

Db10
Find a bowl that's roughly the same size as the doilies and cut out two circles with the pinking shears.

Db11
You can pick "where" you want to cut the circles out of the fabric so the prettiest part shows. Cut two large circles out of felt as well.

Db14
Find two smaller bowls to cut smaller pieces of felt and fabric out of.

Db15
Do some futzing to figure out where you want things.

Db17
Fold the fabric circles in half over the clothes line and secure with small dabs of hot glue.

Db19
Glue the felt down too…

Db16
And the doilies together…

Db21
I used 5 doilies and 2 large fabric circles and 2 large felt circles total.

  1. These are so cute and colorful! I love them, the colors make me think of Hello Kitty for some reason :) And… I do have a bottle of Rit under my sink. Still afraid to use it. So silly of me! Thanks for the motivation :)

  2. Very cute and very thrifty. I love the idea for the banner. Easter is so much fun to decorate. The beautiful pale colors and bright ones too.
