DIY Letter Decor Ideas

What’s H-O-T in decor right now? Letters of course! DIY Letter Decor is simple to create and there are SO many options.

 Whether you’re looking to add a pop of color to your living room or some sparkle to a kid’s room, the possibilities are endless!

 Moss Covered Letters

 Bring some of the great outdoor inside with these fun moss covered letters.

Supplies: Cardboard letter(s), MossyMat (available at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frames) a ruler and craft knife or scissors.

Directions: Using a ruler measure the top (height and width) of letters. Flip the MossyMat over and use a pen to mark the same measurements on the MossyMat. Cut out with craft knife or scissors. Remove the backing from the MossyMat and stick moss onto letters. Do the same for the sides and top of letter.

 Giant Scrabble Tile Letter

 It’s so fun to make a giant scrabble tile. 

Supplies: A 10 x 10 artist’s canvas, a 12 x 12 piece of woodgrain paper, usually found in the scrapbook aisle. A large wooden letter of your choice, a small number (I lucked out and found one that was already painted  black), Beacon 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue, America Acrylic Paint in Black, a paper cutter or scissors. All items available at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frame.

Directions: Paint the large wooden letter black. It may take 2-3 coats to get full coverage. Let it completely dry. If you have a paper cutter, cut your wooden scrapbook paper to 10 x 10. If you don’t have a paper cutter, no problem. Flip your paper over so the wooden side is face down and use a ruler to measure 10 x10 inches. Cut it out.  Apply the Beacon 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue to the artist’s canvas. Carefully place the piece of wooden scrapbook paper on top. Use the glue to attach the large letter and small number and let it set.

 

 Rhinestone Studded Letter

 When it comes to sparkly decor, rhinestones are a girl’s best friend!

Supplies: Cardboard letter, Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Coating, Americana Acrylic Paint in Ultra Blue Deep, Rhinestone Tacks and foam paintbrush. All items available at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frame. 

Directions: Paint letter with acrylic paint letting it dry between coats (it may take a few). Spray with crystal clear coating (makes it shiny). Let it dry. Add rhinestone tacks.

Tissue Paper Covered Letter

Take a walk on the wild side… of tissue paper that is! Dressing up your letters with tissue paper is quick and easy.

 Supplies: Cardboard letter, Beacon Fast Finish Decoupage, Decopatch Tissue Paper, scissors and paintbrush. All items available at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frame.

Directions: Cut squares or strips of tissue paper. Apply Fast Finish Decoupage to letter. Add square or strip of tissue paper then add another coat of decoupage on top. Continue until letter is covered.

Metallic Letter 

Create a letter that’s rich in color and texture with paint and upholstery tacks.

 Supplies: Cardboard letter,Americana Acrylic Paint in Traditional Burnt Sienna, Decoart Dazzling Metallics Paint in Glorious Gold, Dritz Home Decorative Nails, paintbrush and sponge for painting. All items available at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frame.

Directions: Paint letter with burnt sienna color (may take a full coats for full coverage). Using a sponge, apply gold acrylic paint and let dry. Add decorative nails.

Glitter Letter 

Light up your kid’s room with a shimmery glitter letter.

 Supplies: Cardboard letter, Mod Podge, Americana Acrylic Paint in Royal Fuchsia, Nicole Ultra Fine Premium Glitter, paintbrushes. All items available at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frame.

Directions: Paint cardboard letter fuchsia (make take a few coats) and let dry. Brush a think coat of Mod Podge on top and add glitter. Let it dry.

Have fun creating your own custom letter or mix and match color and styles to spell a word.
