Chalkcloth Stockings

How does Santa know who has been good or bad? I have an idea.

Stocking1

Supplies:  A piece of chalkcloth, at least 20 x 20, Oilcloth, Pinking Shears, Scissors, chalk, double-sided tape, sewing machine and Stocking Template from Country Living found here. Also any embellishments you happen to have– ribbon, gems, trim etc.

Stocking3
Print and assemble the stocking template. Trace pattern on chalkcloth.

  Stocking2

Cut out a "front" and "back."

Stocking5

Use the pinking shears to cut the oilcloth trim. Mine is 2 1/2 inches wide

  Stocking6

Trim oilcloth sides to fit stocking. Stick double sided tape in the middle of the back of the oilcloth to hold the pieces in place while sewing. Sew oilcloth and chalkcloth together.

Stocking7
Sew additional ribbon or trim. Then sew wrong sides of the stocking together. I used double sided tape to hold the front and back pieces of the stocking together. Straight pins and chalkcloth don't play nicely together.

  Stockingseven

My stitches were about 1 1/2 inches in. If you'd like to make a hanger, use 6 inches of seam binding. Fold in half and sew it into stocking just before you finish. Embellish to you heart's content…

Stocking8
Then write whatever strikes your fancy in chalk. You can write a name or something silly like this checklist.

To change it, wipe away with a damp cloth.

I might add one more box… "Naughty, but interesting" on my next version.
