Guest Postage: Two Shades of Pink

Guest Postage

Hi there! I'm Jessica and I write a craft blog called Two Shades of Pink. I can not tell you how excited I was when Malia asked me to guest post on her fabulously creative blog. I love how she inspires us with her amazingly creative skills while sharing other crafty brilliance she finds in the blogosphere. You are never disappointed when you visit and I am so happy to be here!

Today I am going to share some no sew garland ideas. I confess to having an alarming, ever present devotion to all things GARLAND. I really love any one I see. You could probably string life savers on a line of dental floss and I would ooh and ahh over it's uniqueness. I'm serious. :)

Here are some of  my favorite ones I have made… (I have a thing for titling a lot of my photos…kind of like rolling out a crafty red carpet…whatever…I will let you read on…

Garalnd collage

1. A fun ball garland with different textures using linen, yarn, and ribbon balls on twine.

2.  I love this pretty garland of twine (you see a theme? I like twine) made with fabric leaves and flowers.

3.  A 10 minute paper doily garland…Fold, glue, press.  Easy peasy!

4.  This is one of my favorite garlands made from cereal boxes, socks, and scrap fabric with various textures.

5.  I actually did this fun scrapbook paper bunting pretty recently. I love the yarn that looks like baker's twine!.

6.  My pink and felt ruffle ball garland is another fave.

7.  A pom pom apple garland I made for my oldest daughter's class party. I just cut out paper leaves on twine and clipped the apples to the vine with clothespins. So cute!

Now for our Fabric Scrap Garlands!!!

I have so much scrap fabric that it seems to take over my craft area. And I save everything from bedsheets to vintage pillowcases. So I think it is fun to use up your scraps in a functional and PRETTY way.

There are so many ways to do this. Cut our circles and fold them over ribbon to make a scallop bunting.  Cut various shapes like rectangles of varying widths and sew two different fabric pieces together.

But today I am sharing No-Sew, No-Glue, easy and simple ones!

Here we go…

Rag garland tute

(Cut your scrap pieces into about 15 inch lengths but I varied the lengths a bit to look more primitive.)

1. Fold in half forming a loop,  placing your fabric under your length of twine.

2. Take your two loose ends and pull them them through the loop to form a knot.

3. Pull tight. Just make sure you tie the knot int he same direction each time as you move down the twine.

Seriously.  That is it.

1.  Cut your fabric into squares.  Mine measure 10 inches but I would do it a little larger to make tying easier.

2.  Fold squares into triangles.

3.  Line them up.

4.  Tie the points together.

5.  I tied two fabric strips to the end to make it easier to tie to a fence, tree. etc.

Another simple one that probably did no need a tutorial but I did one anyway to work out the kinks.  Here are some tips…buy thin, flowy material.  Fat quarters are perfect for this.  I also see this as a fabulous way to use bandannas or vintage handkerchiefs. too.

Can it get any easier then that?  I can just imagine these outside for a casual picnic or dinner party.  So simple. So pretty. So sweet.  I love them and I hope you do too!

I am so happy I got to be here today posting on Malia's beautiful blog.  Stop by anytime to visit, say hi, or confess your obsession with garlands too.  I promise to enable you often. :)

Take care friends!

Jessica

Thank you Miss Jessica!
