Rustic Fourth of July: Jam Jar Lid Tic Tac Toe

Hi, I’ve been working on a few ideas for a cheap + chic Fourth of July.

Fourth of July Entertaining

One of my ideas involves jam jars– but what to do with the lids? Make them into tic tac toe pieces:

Jam lid checkers1

Measure the jam jar lid to cover with paper. Glasses make great templates or use a circle cutter. This one is the Custom Cutting System from Creative Memories. I think it could probably be considered *vintage* but it still works great. You need two sheets of patterned paper. The polka dot paper is from Canvas Corp and the navy stars is from October Afternoon. The red and white gingham is from Martha Stewart. I made two sets of game pieces.

Jam lid checkers2

Use Modge Podge to adhere the paper to the lid.

Jam lid checkers3

Make a grid using washi tape (or duct tape would work well too).

Jam lid checkers4

Use a dot of hot glue on the back of each lid to secure a magnet. Pop into the frame and you’re done.

Jam lid checkers6

Patriotic Tic Tac Toe.

Jam lid checkers7

Grab a snack and you’re set.

Love this idea. I can’t believe the Fourth is coming soon… maybe it has something to do with our lack of summer weather. I must remove this negative gloom and think summer – your ideas will help!
