Mother’s Day Soiree: Butterflies and Blooms Party Ideas

Hello! It's almost OUR special holiday… MOTHER'S DAY! I received this box of goodness from Martha Stewart Crafts recently– it was literally packed with wonderful possibilities, including acrylic paint. The amazing thing about this Martha Stewart Crafts Decorative Paint is that is is MULTI-SURFACE… that's right it can be used on wood, glass, metal and fabric. OH and paper… we'll get to that later. These products are available in Michaels stores (US and Canada), select Jo-Ann stores and independent stores nationwide.

Some inexpensive ideas for a Butterflies and Blooms Mother's Day Soiree started floating around my head (or should I say flying)… included in the package were sets of stencils that have a happy spring-y feel. I decided to go bold for the soiree… and grabbed some bright colors: Party Streamer (hot pink), Pond (turquoise), Marmalade (orange) and Meadowlark (yellow).

Project 1: Butterfly Cloth Napkins

Time for a confession… stencils used to scare me. I felt like I was the only crafter in the universe who couldn't get a good result. Thanks to these new Martha Stewart stencils– anyone can use them.

Ms4

One thing I learned– the right brush for the surface is important. Here I used bristle brushes on cloth.

Ms5

I simply applied the paint… and gently removed the stencil while the paint was wet.

Ms6

Amazing! They all turned out perfect. No boo-boos… success!

Project 2: Spring Votives

Supplies are pictured above, including glass votives holders.

For glass, Martha Stewart Crafts makes these adhesive stencils… and they have a good strong "stick." That and foam pouncers are the key.

Ms9

I just applied the paint…

Ms10

Carefully removed the stencil…

Ms11

And there you go! Pretty votives. Note: the paint needs to cure on the glass for 21 days.

Ms12

Pop in some fancy candles and they make a great decor item or party favor.

Project 3: Fancy Paper Napkins

Ms13

Supplies are pictured above, including paper napkins. Instead of using the bristle brushes, I went with the foam pouncers for this project.

 Ms15

Cocktail napkins are underappreciated, don't you think? I gussied them up with a stencil and a pouncer.

Ms16

It was very easy and I loved the added detail.

I just stenciled a bunch of butterflies on some white cardstock… all colors.   Ms21

Let them dry and cut them out and gently folded them in half.

Ms22

I can't get over how "clean" the lines are.
