DIY Mother’s Day Gifts

Moms are the heart of the family! Celebrate those special Moms in your life with a handcrafted gift that she’s sure to love. From the “Glam Mom,” to the mom who loves to cook, from the Mom who loves wearing color… to the Mom who enjoys entertaining… from the Mom who likes everything organized to the mom with a BIG sweet tooth… there’s a perfect DIY gift for every MOM!
For the Glam Mom… Glam Glitter Vases
Mom will adore these fancy looking (but super simple to make) Glam Glitter Vases.
Materials
– Glass Jar(s) we used three different sizes of Ball Jars
– Glitter in chunky or fine (we used Ultra Fine Premium Glitter by Nicole)
– Mod Podge
– Acrylic Paint in Carosuel Pink from Americana
– Sponge Brush
– Bristle Brush
– Gloss Sealer Crystal Clear from Krylon
Instructions
1. Paint the jar and let it dry (make take 3 coats).
2. Apply Mod Podge with a sponge brush.
3. Shake glitter over Mod Podged area.
4. After Mod Podge is dry, brush off glitter with the bristle brush.
5. Spray wth 2 coats of gloss sealer.

For the Mom who likes to cook… DIY Recipe Holder
I first saw this idea on the blog From Shanty 2 Chic and made just a few changes. Thanks Shanty 2 Chic!
Materials
– Spray Paint by Design Master in Robin’s Egg
– Wooden Box
– Wooden spool, finial and 5 x 5 square
– Spray Paint
– Hot Glue
– A clothespin
– Scrapbook Paper we used Splendid Sunshine in Terrific Triangles from Splendid Sunshine

Instructions
1. In a well ventilated area, spray paint all the wood pieces.
2. When dry, use hot glue to attach the spool to the bottom center of the box.
3. Find the center of the wooden square and use hot glue to add the top of the square to the bottom of the spool.
4. Hot glue finial to top center of box.
5. Use hot glue to add the clothespin.
6. Trim a piece of scrapbook paper and add to Recipe Holder with glue.
Mom can store extra recipes INSIDE the box!
For the Mom who loves to entertain… DIY Coasters
If Mom likes to entertain, make her a set of custom DIY Coasters.
Materials
– Set of blank coasters and holder
– Scrapbook Paper: we used a 6 x 6 Bundle from Authentique in Flourish
– Mod Podge
– Clear Coat Crystal Clear from Krylon
-Scissors or Paper Trimmer

Instructions
1. Trim the paper to fit on the coasters.
2. Apply Mod Podge to coasters and add paper.
3. Spray with sealer.
For the Mom who loves to wear color… Fun Flower Necklaces
If the Mom one your list likes color, make her a set of Fun Flower Necklaces.
Materials
Bottle caps with jump rings from Bottle Cap inc.
Epoxy Flowers (Sierra Pacific Crafts, comes with two of five colors) from Sierra Pacific Crafts
E-6000 Glue or Craft Glue
Colorful Seed Bead Necklaces

Instructions
1. Glue flower on bottle cap.
2. Repeat until you use all 5 colors of flower.
3. Slip seed bead necklaces through jump ring.
For the Mom who loves to be organized… a Jewelry Box
Moms like to put everything in it’s place. Make her a Monogrammed Jewelry Box to corral her keepsakes.
Materials
– White jewelry box
– Large vinyl letter
– 4 Plastic Knobs from Sierra Pacific Crafts
– Mod Podge
– Scrapbook Paper we used Splendid Sunshine in Terrific Triangles from Splendid Sunshine
– Doily Tape from Darice
– Ribbon Tape from Forever in Time
– Hot Glue

Instructions
1. Following package instructions, add vinyl letter to the center of the top of the box.
2. Trim paper to fit around the base of the box.
3. Add adhesive lace and ribbon.
4. Remove screws from knobs and attach knobs to bottom of box with hot glue.
For the Mom with a Sweet Tooth… Mother’s Day Cookie Bouquet
If Mom likes sweets, make her a beautiful cookie bouquet.
Supplies
– Ready to Use Rolled Fondant Neon Colors Multi Pack by Wilton
– Green Writing Frosting
– Lollipop Sticks by Wilton
– Tulip Cookie Cutters (3pc) from Sierra Pacific Crafts
– Flower Pot
– Styrofoam Ball to fit in Flower Pot
– Leaf Green Paint from Americana
– Green Krinkled Shred

Instructions
1. Bake cookies. We used the “Cookies on a Stick” and Microwave Frosting recipes from Southern Living. Cut out tulips with cookie cutters, bake, and add frosting and sticks following recipe.
2. Following directions on fondant package, use tulip cookie cutters to cut out and fondant decorate cookies. You can use the photo a guide.
3. Write “Happy,” “Mother’s” and “Day” each on a large cookie.
4. Paint the styrofoam ball green. After it dries, put in flower pot.
5. Add cookies.
6. Cover with green krinkled shred.
