The Best Sore Throat Soother

My Mom got the recipe for “The Best Sore Throat Soother” from our pediatrician when I was a little girl. It’s a staple in my family… and I’ m going to spill it! NOTE: I was a child of the 1970’s and things were very different. This remedy is NOT meant for kids– just adults! Like I said… things were different in the ’70’s!

Home Sore Throat Remedy

Make a batch and store it for easy access this fall and winter.

I could have used this last weekend. For three days, I had a horrible sore throat. I kept gargling with salt water, taking EmergenC, and cough drops. It did go away thankfully. This recipe will come in handy. Thanks so much!!

Growing up in the South East, we used a very similar recipe, only with ginger added and replaced the vodka with rum. My girlfriend’s family used whiskey and added garlic. We still use this, because it may taste dreadful, but it works!

We use a similar recipe except we boil water add the lemon juice then the lemon shell ( with pulp and all) heat till boiled, add oregano (natural antibiotic) pour on top of 2 tbs of honey with a shot of tequila. Could skip the oregano if u didn’t like the taste, but it’s is a key component

Are you supposed to keep this in the fridge or just out in medicine cabinet? Trying this tonight, my throat is killing me!

We used whiskey instead of vodka growing up (mostly as a teenager). It was diluted in water and warmed. I hated the taste but man it helped. I should bust this out again next cold! I think I’d use rum now that I’ve had grown up experience with these alcohol tastes!
