Independence from Hunger® Food Drive

Independence from Hunger Food Drive: How you can help needy kids and families in you community.

Summertime can be especially tough for kids and families who depend partly on their local schools for meals. According to a report from the Food Research and Action Center, 6 out of 7 low-income kids who eat a free or reduced-price school lunch during the academic year do NOT get a free meal during the summer.

That’s why Grocery Outlet launched it’s Independence from Hunger® Campaign for the month of July. Now in it’s fifth year, this program is aimed at helping those in need on the hyper local level. Every Grocery Outlet store across the country is joining forces with a local food agency in their area and– this is the part I love– all donations received throughout that campaign will go directly to that partner.

When you donate in your community, you will be helping people in your community.

How You Can Help

1. Look for specially marked food items at Grocery Outlet: These are items handpicked by each local food agency that they have identified as “high need.” Buy those items and place them in the collection bin at the front of the store.

2. Pick up a pre-made bag: To make it even easier to help, Grocery Outlet has assembled pre-made bags that you can purchase and donate.

3. Make a donation at the register: You can make a cash donation at the register and that money will go directly to the local food agency that the store has teamed up with. Any amount is appreciated.

4. Join the events at your local store: Participate in the events are your local store to support the Independence from Hunger® Campaign.
