Speckled Robin’s Egg Mason Jar

Speckled Robin’s Egg Mason Jar

I made this Speckled Robin’s Egg Mason Jar to welcome spring into my home… or is it coax… or beg? It still feels like winter here in Seattle area, where we have had more snow fall than I can remember. And it’s been cold! I’d love for spring to make an appearance now.

When I think of spring, I think of robin’s eggs. I love the look of dark speckles against blue. I wanted to make a mason jar with that same springy feel.

So I always give my painted mason jars projects a base coat with primer. I’ve found it makes for better paint coverage.

Step 1: Apply a coat of primer.

Step 2: Paint the jar “serene.”

Step 3: Mix “rustic” with a little bit of black paint and mix. Dip paintbrush in and then with fingers, flick the toothbrush bristles next to the jar. That’s how you get the speckles.

Here’s how the jar looked after it got “speckled.”

Step 5: Add a drop of hot glue to the jar’s rim and add twine. Continue wrapping twine around jar until rim area is covered.

Step 6: Add tag.

Then you can fill it with flowers. I know some folks look down on baby’s breath, but I think it’s fabulous. It’s inexpensive and light and adds nice texture.

  1. This is so beautiful! I’ve always wondered how they achieved that look. I’m going to try this for an Easter project I’m currently working on! Thanks! Also, where did you buy the little moss basket with the tiny eggs??? Or did you make it? So cute!!
