With the sun out and summer on the horizon, I just had to make some DIY Polka Dot Sneakers! They are so cheerful and happy.
I got the idea from some super cute shoes I saw online– the brand is “Kate Spade for Keds” and the name of the model is “New York Champions.” They are totally adorable but with a retail price of $75, they area bit expensive for sneakers. Here’s what caught my fancy about this shoe:
I thought these sneeks were adorable with their loads of polka dots, contrasting colors and a solid stripe around the bottom of the shoe (which you can’t see in this photo). So I headed out to Payless Shoes to get a similar pair… for $14.99!
DIY Polka Dot Sneakers
Supplies: Canvas Shoes (Payless Shoes), DecoArt So Soft Fabric Paint, Apple Barrel Paint a sponcer by Plaid, and masking tape (all available at Ben Frankin Crafts Redmond).
Step 1: Use masking tape to tape off a bottom and top section of the shoe.
Step 2: Paint a stripe on a contrasting color. After it dries, paint one more coat.
Step 3: As the stripe is drying, use a sponcer dipped in white So Soft Fabric Paint to create polka dots on the shoe.
Tips: It’s ok to place polka dots on the seams– it’s the same as the inspiration shoe.
Step 4: Continue stamping dots around the shoe.
Tip: It’s ok to let the polka dots go off the side of the shoe too.
Step 5: Carefully remove the masking tape around the bottom of the shoe.
