Here’s a fun way to make Christmas ever more exciting: a Rustic Advent Calendar!

Rustic Advent Calendar with Americana Chalky Finish Paints by Yesterday on Tuesday

Supplies: Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint in Escape, Romance, Everlasting and Delicate. Americana Decor Soft Touch Varnish. Wooden Advent Calendar from Michaels and number stickers from Michaels. You’ll also need a large and small paintbrush, a white wax candle and sandpaper.

Step 1: Remove the drawers and paint the tree with “Escape.”

Step 2: Paint the drawers “Everlasting,” and let dry. Paint two more times.

Step 3: Using a white wax candle, rub the wax on areas on the tree that you’d like the Everlasting color show through, including around the sides of the tree. Remove any loose wax.

Step 4: Paint the tree “Romance” by dragging a dry brush loaded with a the paint color across the tree. Leave the sides of the tree “Everlasting.” When dry, light sand over some of the areas you want the “Everlasting” color to peek through.

Step 5: Using a small paintbrush, paint the drawer knobs “Everlasting.”

Step 6: Replace drawers. Using a cloth, apply Americana Soft Touch Varnish to the tree.

Step 7: Distress the star with sandpaper and paint it “Delicate.”

Step 8: Add number stickers to drawers.

Tuck candy inside the drawers and you’re good to go!

    I’m not sure what I would create. I love making salt dough ornaments; so, that’s always a possibility. (If this paint would work on those.) Otherwise, I would certainly find something to use it on.

    I have so many projects on my list. I have a whole room of old furniture that is waiting to be repurposed. However I think the first thing I would do with this is finally make picture frames. I have been in my house for almost 5 years and have very little on the walls. I couldn’t find the types of rustic frames I wanted in store so i’m going to make them.
