DIY Mother’s Day Gifts
Moms are the heart of the family and they do so much for everyone. So how can you show her how special she is? With a handmade gift of course! Here are some super easy DIY ideas for kids of all ages to make for mom.
Supplies: Frame (this one is 12 x9), three mini gold frames, a piece of scrapbook paper, three pieces of 3 x 3 foam core, glue dots, scissors and Bistro Chalk Marker Pen. You’ll also need three photos. All supplies available at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frames in Redmond.
1. Cut a piece of double sided scrapbook paper to 12 x 6.
2. Place the larger side (more heavily patterned side) inside the frame.
3. Put the less patterned size on top of the pattered piece.
4. Put frame back together.
5. Add a square of foam core and photo cut down to 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches to each frame.
6. Use Glue Dots to attach the small frames to the larger frame.
7. Write a message using the Bistro Chalk Marker Pen.
Supplies: Flower Pot and saucer, white acrylic paint (I used DecoArt Snow White), various shades of DecoArt Acrylic Paint including Ultra Blue Deep, Citron Green, True Red, Orange, Festive Green,Vivid Violet, Primary Yellow and Bahama Blue. You’ll also need black acrylic paint, a foam brush, a sponge, and a medium brush, a fine brush as well as a chalkboard sign and chalk pen. 1. Using the foam brush, paint the flower pot and saucer white and let them dry. This may take 2-3 coats.
2. With the medium brush and green paint, make grass and flower stems on the bottom of the pot.
3. Dip the sponge in Bahama Blue and gently apply to make the sky.
4. Using little (kid’s) fingers, make flowers, bugs, frog and butterfly shapes, using the photo above as a guide.
5. After the basic shapes have dried, add detail with a thin brush and black paint.
6. Add a flower or plant to the pot and make a little sign “Mom, Your Love Helps Us Grow.”
Supplies: For either necklace, you’ll need a silver or gold chain, heart pendant and jump ring. You’ll also need jewelry pliers. All supplies available at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frames in Redmond.
1. Use pliers to open jump ring.
2. Attach jump ring to pendant and use pliers to add to the chain.
3. If desired, place photo inside locket.
Supplies: Large silver heart pendant, wire, crystals, seed bead necklace and jewelry pliers. All supplies available at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frames in Redmond.
1. Place crystals on top of heart and use wire to wrap around.
2. Add pendant to chain.
Supplies: 8 x 8 shadowbox frame, scrapbook paper, vinyl from Decorating Your Life and glue dots. All supplies available at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frames in Redmond. You’ll also need a photo. All supplies available at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frames in Redmond.
1. Cut the scrapbook paper to into an 8 x 8 square.
2. Using glue dots or double sided tape, attach photo to center of paper.
3. Apply vinyl to the glass on the front of the frame.
Supplies: A 6 x 6 wood square, acrylic paint, vinyl saying from Decorating Your Life, scissors, ruler and glue dots or double sided tape. All supplies available at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frames in Redmond.
1. Paint the box and let it dry.
2. Cut the scrapbook paper into 6 x 6 inch square for the front and four 6 by 1/4 inch rectangles for the sides.
3. Use the tape or glue to attach the paper.
4. Add the vinyl saying.
Supplies: Wooden block, white paint, a piece of scrapbook paper, a coordinating paper heart (make it in the Die Cut Center at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frames Redmond), glue dots or double sided tape, scissors, and five photos. I also used letter stickers from Amy Tangerine.
1. Paint the block.
2. Add the heart and letters.
3. Cut five 3 x 3 squares.
4. Trim the five photos to 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 inches.
5. Add photos to paper squares.
6. Add paper squares to the wood block.
Supplies: Small faux flower vase, vinyl saying and thin burlap ribbon. All supplies available at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frames in Redmond.
1. Add vinyl to vase.
2. Add bow.
Supplies: A 6 inch piece of leather, magnetic closure kit, jewelry glue, rhinestone letters. All supplies available at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frames in Redmond.
1. Slide on the desired letters.
2. Glue on the closures and let dry.
Supplies: Silver love pendant and bracelet, jump rings and jewelry pliers. All supplies available at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frames in Redmond.
1. Open a jump ring and attach the pendant to both side of the bracelet.
