Two Sculptors Printable Art
Have you ever had an extra special teacher… my kids each had the same one, Heidi Coebergh, and this Two Sculptors was a quote she would share with her students and their parents.
Here’s what is says:
Two Sculptors by Anonymous
I dreamed I saw a studio and watched two sculptors there.
The clay they used was a child’s mind and they fashioned it with care.
One was a teacher and the tools she used were books, music, stories, and art.
The other, a parent, worked with a guiding hand and gentle loving heart.
Day after day, the teacher toiled with a touch that was careful, skillful, and sure,
While the parent labored by her side and polished and smoothed it over.
And when at last, their work was done, they were proud of what they had wrought.
For all they had molded into the child could neither be sold nor bought.
And each agreed they would have failed if they had worked alone,
For behind the parent stood the school and behind the teacher, the home.

Sadly, the wonderful teacher and person who shared this quote with her students and their families, recently passed away. She bravely battled ovarian cancer for three years. Heidi recently won an award from the Rivkin Foundation. Here’s a video about her. She had two goals in life: Heidi wanted to be a teacher and she dreamed of being a mom. She would have been an amazing mom… but because of her illness she didn’t get that opportunity.
Since she passed away, I’ve been reflecting on her favorite quote and thinking how true this was for Heidi and her students.
I hope you find meaning in it too.
