The Simplest Way to Remove Wax from a Candle Jar
I guess we all have our obsessions(!)… mine happens to be collecting candles from Bath and Body Works– which means I am always on the lookout for the simplest way to remove wax from a candle jar! I enjoy reusing the containers, but I don’t want to spend a ton of time digging the wax and wicks out.
A couple of years ago, I wrote a post about about this topic (see I told you I had an “issue” with buying these candles): The Easiest Way to Remove Wax from a Glass Jar Candle. At the end, I asked my reader friends if they had any tips for getting rid of the wax.
A few people wrote that popping the candles in the freezer was an even EASIER way to get that candle holder wax free. So I gave it a try. Here’s my experiment. Please don’t judge me on the contents of my freezer! LOL.
Supplies
An old butter knife, Dawn dishwashing liquid soap, Goo Gone and a freezer.
I put four candles in the freezer and left them overnight.
Here’s what they looked like the next day.
Next, I ran an old butter knife around the edge of the wax. By the way, do you see how the wax inside has already cracked itself into chunks? That is a WAY better than outcome that my old method, which involved making cuts into the wax to loosen it. WAY too much work.
This was a joyful moment for me… the wax and wicks literally popped out in one fell swoop. It was extremely satisfying!
Check out the inside. From there, I was able to peel off the labels, which were all stickers. You can get that label on the bottom off by soaking it in hot water OR you can use Goo Gone to make it easier to remove.
If you have any extra waxy debris, I have found that Dawn dishsoap and hot water do the trick.
Can you hear the angels singing? This freezer method was in fact much simpler and less time consuming.
