Hi Pals
I'm pretty late posting today… we finally have some gorgeous weather in Seattle and I'm making the most of it.
I know I've mentioned my hoarding habit my habit of collecting containers. I have the hardest time putting something in the recycling or *gasp* the trash if I think it can be reused. That's why I was so excited when I saw this project in Do It Yourself Magazine.
Supplies: Clean plastic container (I went with a mayo jar. A syrup or ketchup bottle works well too). You also need newspaper, Decoupage Finish (or make your own– 1 part white glue to 3 parts water), acrylic paint, a craft knife, and (optional) a piece of chipboard or cardboard in a shape. Any color paint works, I wanted to go for a "faux stone" look
Cut the newspaper into strips. Brush one side of the strips with Decoupage and put one layer of newspaper on the bottle. Do the same to the chipboard. If necessary, trim excess newspaper from chipboard with the craft knife.
When it's dry, paint acrylic paint on the jar and chipboard. I used black as a base coat.
Since I was going for the "stone" look, I used an old sponge to dab taupe paint over the black paint
Glue on the chipboard, throw some flowers in and you're done
I'm linking up to these fun parties.
Coming up this week– a special deal from a darling shop for Yesterday on Tuesday readers. Check back for more info. Also, my friend Annette is sharing her famous salad recipe, and later this week, I'm interviewing Rory from Tools are For Women Too. In case you don't know him yet, Rory is one of the nicest folks out there in the blog world. He recently started new blog party on Thursday where you're encouraged to link up your etsy shop or product website. Check it out.
On another (personal) note. If you happen to be up this evening (or have TiVo) check out ABC's Nightline tonight. My husband Neal got to sit down with Zac Efron– messing with my mind in the process.
Zac and Neal
I got a phone call the day I knew the interview was set for. This is what I heard on the other end of the line "Hey… It's Zac Efron." Zac Efron! My mind was racing. There was a pause. I was frozen. Then my husband started laughing. He totally got me. WhatEVER! I thought. Then about an hour later, the phone rang again. I answered it. "Hi, It's Zac Efron." O-K I said, thinking my husband doesn't know what to quit. "No really, it's Zac Efron. I'm sitting here with your husband."
There I was, standing in he middle of Trader Joe's on the phone with Zac Efron. Honestly, I am not sure what happened next. But Zac was very nice. And the phone call made my day. Thanks Neal! And Zac.
I have something special from Zac to share with a YOT reader.. come on back for details.
BIG Hug! Malia
