Go Hawks Twelfth Man Treats

Go Hawks Twelfth Man Treats #gohawks #seahawks

This is a spin on the Nilla Wafers Cake Bites Recipe. It’s an easy treat to whip up for a party or any fun occasion. Those of us who live in Seattle are preparing for our second Super Bowl {in a row} this weekend. Our team the Seahawks have had an amazing run the past few years so win or lose, we’ll be celebrating! We like to call ourselves “12’s” or “The Twelfth Man”… meaning the fans are members of the team. That’s why I wanted to make these special treats.

Ingredients: Nilla Wafers (36 makes a dozen finished  treats), 1/4 cup of  jam, 2 tablespoons of orange juice, one cup of Wilton Candy Melts in Vibrant Green, white writing icing and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. You’ll also need wax paper, a cookie sheet, a pastry brush and a microwave safe bowl. *Wilton Candy Melts available at Ben Franklin Crafts and Frames in Redmond.

{Place wax paper on a cookie sheet}

Step 1: Using a pastry brush. flip 24 Nilla Wafers over and brush orange juice on the flat sides of the  wafers then spread jam on top.

Step 2: Put the remaining 12 wafers round side up on the wax paper. Place two jam topped wafers (flat sides down) on the top of each of those “plain” wafers.

Step 3: Place cookie sheet in fridge overnight.

Step 4: Place the candy melts in a microwave safe bowl for one minute and stir until all the candy is melted.

Step 5: Dip the stacked wafters in the melted candy and place on wax paper.

Step 6: Place the treats back in the fridge for an hour.

Step 7: Make “12’s” with white writing icing.

    I’m going to get picky now here. The Texas
    Aggies have been the 12th Man since 1922 when they had smaller teams and the Aggies ran out of subs so they called the 12th Man from the stands to play. The Aggies hold trademark rights to the phrase “12th Man.” In February, the university filed a lawsuit in Brazos County over the Seahawks’ use of the phrase. Days before Seattle faced the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl, a restraining order was issued calling on the Seahawks to halt any usage of “12th Man,” or “12th Mania.”
