Beachy Gold Thanksgiving Centerpiece

One day when I was in my garage, a bowl of shells caught my eye. I’m always gathering things that I think MIGHT be used for something else… one day. I know it drives my husband crazy but I can’t stand to toss out something that could be used in a different way.

Back to the shells. I’m not even sure which summer they are from but I started thinking about all the cool things I could do with them. Then I found a piece of driftwood and I got to work on a Thanksgiving tabletop idea. There were some Thanksgiving memories inspiring me.

Supplies: Clam Shells (I used 3), a piece of driftwood, gold spray paint, vanilla bath salts, small candles, large leaves (real or faux) and a piece of lace or ribbon. You may also want to use hot glue for the lace.

First, I spray painted three good-sized shells gold.

Then I added some vanilla bath salts to give the feeling of sand. Of course you could just use sand instead!

Then I added some small white candles.

And faux leaves and rested them on the driftwood.

Finally, I placed them on driftwood and glue on a piece of lace to give it a romantic feel.

I spent most of my childhood and some of my early adulthood celebrating Thanksgiving in the San Juan Islands. My grandparents had a cabin, and at Thanksgiving all of their family (three sibling, spouses and their kids) would all cram into the little house for the weekend.

This would have been a perfect centerpiece for one of those Thanksgivings. Although they felt crowded and chaotic at the time, in retrospect, I wouldn’t trade them for anything. And I guess that’s what the holiday is about… reflecting and feeling grateful.
