This is a great project for taking something sort of boring (shipping tags) and making them into special little works of art… using stuff you already have!
Supplies: Plain shipping tags from the office supply store, Rit Dye in Lemon Yellow and whatever crepe paper, ribbon, buttons, or other embellishments you have. I also used my sewing machine and rubber stamps.
I love using Rit Dye on paper. It works great.
First up, dye the tags. I use warm water (the more water the lighter the color) and then I used salad tongs to place the wet tags on paper towels to dry.
Then… use whatever you have to make some creative tags. Don’t overthink it!
Vintage bias tape and scraps of ribbon sewn on a tag. “Joy” is stamped on the back of a ticket.
A flower made out of crepe paper with a brad in the middle. I folded a piece of crepe paper (about 8″ long) in half and ran it through the sewing machine on one side. If you pull the strings, it sort of gathers upon itself. For the stem I used a tiny hole punch and embroidery floss.
Crepe paper folded into ruffles and secured with stiches from the sewing machine.
These circles are made out of vintage tickets with a 2″ circle punch. I made additional circles with a black Sharpie.
Random snippets of ribbon and crepe paper fastened via my trusty sewing machine.
A little lace border. “Life” is stamped on some old seam binding and sewn down.
