Modern Farmhouse Spring Styled Tray
I’m so inspired by this time of year… the greenery and flowers blooming, birds chirping and the wonderful spring holidays… that’s why I wanted to create a Modern Farmhouse Spring Styled Tray. A tray is such a versatile decor tool, and it gives you the freedom to personalize it with bits and bobs that you adore! And you can easily change it up as the seasons change.
I’m really drawn to the modern farmhouse/fixer upper style. To me it’s the best of many different looks that I love: a little rustic, industrial and even a touch of luxe. Hobby Lobby is the one stop shop for all your decor needs. I enjoy entertaining so I wanted to create a style that would make a big impact on my guests. Being a do-it-yourself type of gal, I almost wanted to add a few personal touches, like these DIY Prayer Beads.
DIY Prayer Beads
One of the hottest trends in decorating these days are prayer beads. I’ve seen strands of them featured in magazines and for sale online. So I decided to make some myself, with some supplies from Hobby Lobby.
Supplies: Woodpile Round Bead 3/4″ (2 packages), Woodpile Round Bead 1/2″ (2 packages), Woodpile Wooden Cross 2 3/4 ” x 1/4″, Woodpile Nickel Plated Screw Eyes, Mixed Media Jute Twine, DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paint in White Wash, scissors and a hammer and a nail.
1. Paint a cross white
2. In order to insert the “eye” into the cross, use a hammer to gently tap a small nail into the top center of the cross. You don’t want to split the wood, so just make a small hole, then screw the eye into it.
3. String the twine through the eye on the cross.
4. Next string the beads. My pattern was large bead followed by two small beads. Then at the end I finished with an extra large bead at each end. I used a total of forty beads, sixteen of the larger and twenty four of the smaller.
5. I used the two pieces of twine to tie a knot and trimmed it.
I nestled the DIY Prayer Beads into a chic silver bowl I found at Hobby Lobby. But that was just the beginning of my styling.
Spring Styled Tray Ideas
A simple pint sized mason jar with some spanish moss, some twine I hot glued around the top and a faux candle makes a pretty backdrop. The small green plant wrapped in burlap ties it all together.
For the top tier, I wanted to add some height, so I picked up a weathered looking finial. Another fun find was the smaller galvanized “K” for our last name (Karlinsky).
I placed a fun yum sign on the bottom tier and added a little flourish of faux lavender.
The Modern Farmhouse Spring Styled Tray is the centerpiece of my buffet.

Thanks MB! Trays are awesome, I love the tiered ones cause I am a stacker and it makes my “stacking” look more organized… otherwise it’s a pile LOL! xo
