Easy Lamp Revamp

A lamp that is past it’s prime or picked up at the thrift shop can easily be transformed. With just a few supplies and a little bit of time you can take a lamp from trash to treasure.

How to upgrade a lamp

Upgrading a lamp is one of the cheapest projects you can do to change up your decor. With springtime here, I was eager to lighten and brighten our living space.

Easy Lamp Revamp

Supplies: Old lamp base, KRYLON Indoor/Outdoor spray paint in Blue Ocean Breeze, new burlap shade from Target, vintage butterfly clip art from The Cottage Market, straight pins and wire cutters.

The KRYLON paint was great for this job. You do light coats of paint and they dry fast… it says 10 minutes on the can and I think that’s right.

I taped the heck out of the light fixture part and the cord so I wouldn’t accidentally paint them. It’s always a challenge for me!

How to upcycle a lamp

Let the lamp dry. Using jewelry wire cutters, cut the straight pins in half.

Then carefully print and cut the butterflies out. The colors of the butterflies are so bright and vibrant.

So just sort of stick them where you like them with the straight pins.

That’s all there is to it. You can gently bend the wings up to give them dimension.

I love butterflys! Your lamp looks great – nice job! Isn’t spray paint amazing! I used that same spray paint on an old rusty faux brass floor lamp and what a difference! Thanks for sharing!

[…] A cool lamp can really vamp up a living area. Upcycled lamps are very common and pretty easy to do! The easiest way to add new light to a lamp is getting some new shades for it. But before you think you need to go and spend you hard-earned cash, remember old lamps shades can also be painted or jazzed up. Yesterday on Tuesday blog shows how you can paint a lamp an revamp the shade. Check it out. […]
