Upcycling Ideas

Earth Day is Tuesday April 22nd… and what better way to celebrate this special day than transforming some trash to treasure? Here are some super cool upcycling ideas using items you’d normally throw away. YOU WON’T BELIEVE what they started out as!

1. From a Swiffer Container to Faux Flower Planter

7 Amazing Earth Day Ideas

Here’s what this stunning arrangement started as:

Swiffer Packaging

Directions:  Use a clean and empty Swiffer container as your base. Add wooden feet with hot glue, paint the tub and feet with acrylic paint, then dab on gold paint to distress. Place a faux flower, rocks, moss and bamboo inside. Your gorgeous flower will never fade.

 2. From Tea Canisters to Chic Containers

7 Amazing Earth Day Ideas

These stylish containers are great for storing pens, pencils and other desk supplies. Here’s what they looked like “before.”

Tea Cannister

Directions: Start with tin tea canisters. Drill a hole in the top of a tea cannister, and add a small knob. Cover the container with scrapbook paper and add number stickers.

3. From a Shoe Box Lid to Photo Frame

7 Amazing Earth Day Ideas

Don’t recycle those old show boxes… UPCYCLE them into beautiful photo frames!

Shoe Box

It’s the LID from a sturdy show box! Thank you Ivanka Trump for the handy boxes.

Directions: Paint the box and add scrapbook paper, ribbon, embellishments and a photo.

4. From a Corn Starch Container to Sewing Kit

7 Amazing Earth Day Ideas

Directions: Clean out a corn starch container and remove the label. Using Mod Podge, cover the top with batting, ribbon and fabric. Then cover the sides with ribbon and fabric and add some fun “sewing” trinkets. Put your sewing essentials inside and you’re good to go!

5. From Tin Cans to a Portable Herb Garden

7 Amazing Earth Day Ideas

This project is a smart way to reuse all those tin cans. Mine were actually dog food cans!

7 Amazing Earth Day Ideas

It’s really easy to give them a new purpose.

Tin Can

Directions:  You’ll need four tin cans and a wooden photo frame. Rinse out the cans well. Paint the cans and wood. Drill a hole in each can and in the wood and use screws to attach. Use hot glue to add twine to pretty  up the cans. Plant herbs in cans and now you have a portable herb garden!

 6. From an Egg Carton to a Craft Caddy

7 Amazing Earth Day Ideas

Stow all those crafty bits and pieces away in a repurposed egg carton! Paint, scrapbook paper, baker’s twine and a few embellishments takes it from plain to pretty awesome.

7. From a Wooden Strawberry Container to Recipe Box

7 Amazing Earth Day Ideas

Strawberries are sweet as so are the wooden containers they come in!

Wooden Strawberry Box

Directions: You’ll need a container, acrylic paint, scrapbook paper and stickers. Paint the container and let it dry. Add scrapbook paper and stickers.

Happy Earth Day!
