The front porch area has been neglected since the winter. I did have a few flowers in a pot, but other than that it was pretty sparse out there. I wanted to make it a cheerful, happy area where we could hang out and where people would feel welcome when they stopped by. But I also wanted to do it cheaply {I mean in a budget friendly way}.

The first thing on my list was add some color closer to the door.

How to make a flower planter from a chair.

So I improvised a little and removed the seat on a chair I’d revamped …

Chair Revamp

And added a planter. Here’s the original post {Chair Revamp}, but I think the chair, minus the seat, makes a pretty cute planter. I also wanted to add some color to greet people as they walked up to our door.

Pillar

Here’s what the pillar area looked like before, dust and all! I had an old metal rack and some pansies… so I picked up some bright yellow buckets at my neighborhood Bartell Drugstore and added vinyl numbers and this is how it looked “after.”

How to transform a metal rack into a pretty place to display flowers.

And I did dust a bit while I was out there. I promise.

Next I turned to my large flower pot.

Filled in Flower Pot

First I filled it with bright blooms…

DIY Mason Jar Lantern

And added a Mason Jar Lantern.

DIY Monogram Wreath

The door was needing some attention, so I made this little wreath.

Outdoor Seating Area

And I think the outdoor seating area looked pretty inviting too.

Table

Whether I have company or not! But I hope I do.

  4. I love to decorate my porch. I planted banana trees and bamboo around my porch for extra shade and as a privacy screen. I have sweet potato vines as ground cover and red runner beans for flowers. Now I just need some less embarrassing seating!

  6. I like decorating my porch more than my patio. After all, the front of your house is the first thing everyone sees

  7. I live in the apartment with a sunroom/balcony, so space saving outdoor DIY projects are my favorite! I live in Portland, Oregon, where we only get sun in the summer, so I make sure to enjoy it every day. My most recent project was the tiered plant wall I made for the sun room – my plants are thriving now!

  8. I love to do landscaping and changing up my flower beds but I really like to spruce up the deck

  9. I love to decorate the walkway in front of my house. My porch is big enough for one person, so the plants end up out front instead. :)

  11. Love your web page. My favorite place is my front porch!! So much fun to get out there in spring and give it a facelift!!

  12. I love my back patio, but I wish it wasn’t blasted with full sun all summer. I want my fruit trees to grow faster!!!

  13. I have a TINY patio but I love my colorful pots. I sit and watch the baby birds nesting in the bird house.

  16. This year, I’m excited to be decorating our new stone patio (that’s being put next to our new pool!). I plan to spend a lot of time out there, and want it to look nice & inviting!

  17. What outdoor space do you love to decorate for the summer the most? Your porch, deck or patio? I’d have to say my porch because it is currently empty & needs all the help it can get asap

  21. I’ve been spending a lot of time trying to spruce up our front porch! I used the long weekend to do some touch-up painting and make an outdoor rug from an old drop cloth. There’s still a lot to do, but it’s coming along! :)

  22. Our porch and patio leave a lot to be desired, but I LOVE decorating the little garden area on the side of our house. We have lots of hostas, peonies, various trees, and swings over there, and it is the perfect place to read in the shade. I would love to do more with all of our outdoor spaces!

  23. Love decorating the patio with hanging baskets, and a few herbs and plants- I’m trying to grow lettuce this year.

  24. Our porch- it usually has a red/white/ blue them throughout May-Jul. Then we do a summer/school theme until Fall

  26. We have a tri level deck across the entire back of our home that overlooks the golf course.Since the living room and dining room open onto the deck I like to make sure I have it decorated nicely since we use i so much.
